This General Notice serves to address the uncertainty regarding whether a “parachute” falls within the ambit of the definition of the word “aircraft”, as defined in the Civil Aviation Act, 2009 (Act 13 of 2009) (“the Act”) and the associated Civil Aviation Regulations, 2011 (CARS, 2011) and to provide clarity to the civil aviation industry and the general public at large.
SAHPA are pleased to announce that Part 106 has been accepted by CARCOM and will now be sent to the Minister of Transport for promulgation.
The Baskloof launch site is closed until further notice. This is due to widespread damage and risk of erosion.
This is an urgent appeal to all pilots to avoid disrupting fire-fighting operations. This notice is aimed primarily at paraglider and hang glider pilots, but the sentiment may be extended to all recreational pilots in the Western Cape.
Suspending fire-fighting operations has serious ramifications: allowing a fire to rage, putting property and fire-fighters at risk, and also incurs a significant hourly cost of operating multiple helicopters.
On 25th February 2023, instructor Nigel Frith was involved in an accident on the mountainside near Wolseley in the Western Cape. He later died of his injuries.
