In early 2025, South African pilots Francois de Villiers, Ruard de Bruyn, and Roland de Vries embarked on a month-and-a-half paragliding journey through Colombia’s spectacular Cauca Valley. What began as a high-level competition quickly turned into a rich and rewarding mix of racing, guiding, and exploring some of the world’s finest XC terrain.
Imagine soaring above South Africa’s spectacular landscapes—from lush northern hills to the rugged beauty of the Karoo and finally to the dramatic coastline of Cape Agulhas. Three paramotor pilots, Lawrence, Gary, and Jean-Pierre, have joined forces to undertake this epic 2,200-kilometer adventure from the country’s northernmost to southernmost tip. Driven by passion, meticulous planning, and an unbreakable spirit of camaraderie, they’re preparing to face the mental and physical challenges ahead.
