Baskloof launch site closed due to fire damage
The Baskloof launch site is closed until further notice. This is due to widespread damage and risk of erosion.
Fire-fighting and Rescue Services in the Western Cape
This is an urgent appeal to all pilots to avoid disrupting fire-fighting operations. This notice is aimed primarily at paraglider and hang glider pilots, but the sentiment may be extended to all recreational pilots in the Western Cape.
Avoiding rescue and fire-fighting helicopter operations
Suspending fire-fighting operations has serious ramifications: allowing a fire to rage, putting property and fire-fighters at risk, and also incurs a significant hourly cost of operating multiple helicopters.
Preliminary Accident Report on Nigel Frith
On 25th February 2023, instructor Nigel Frith was involved in an accident on the mountainside near Wolseley in the Western Cape. He later died of his injuries.
Kleinkrantz top-launch is closed
The top-launch (top of the sand-dune) at Kleinkrantz is currently CLOSED and may not be used for flying activities.
