Dear Members,
We would like to thank the 91 individuals who participated in the Part 106 Survey. This survey was a necessary step to solicit community participation and support in the regulatory process.
Duration
The Part 106 Survey was run from Tuesday, 23 February 2021 to Friday, 26th February 2021 at 12:00. On request from several members and with the support of the SAHPA Committee, the deadline was extended to 18:00 on Friday, which resulted in 7 additional votes being cast.

Participants
A total of (91) people participated in the Part 106 Survey:
- Two SAHPA members were unable to access the website directly, and submitted their votes in writing to the SAHPA Office.
- Grade-A Instructors (18)
- Grade-B Instructors (11)
- Grade-C Instructors (12)
- Sports Licence + Tandem Rating (5)
- Sports Licence (21)
- Basic Licence (21)
- Other (1)
- Total of 91 participants with the following composition:
- 41 Instructors
- 50 Basic & Sport Licence (excluding instructors)
Design
The survey consisted of two questions, each with two options:
Question 1. Requirements for Grade-B Instructors
- Option A (current): 300 flights, 100 hours, hold sports licence for 12 months, must attend 3 schools, does not have to attend instructor course.
- Option B (proposed): 500 high flights, 100 combined hours, hold sports licence for 24 months, attend 1 school, attend an instructor course.
Question 2. Requirements for Grade-C Instructors (TFI):
- Option A (current): 500 flights (tandem and solo), 100 tandem flights, 50 tandem hours, hold tandem rating for 12 months
- Option B (proposed): 500 flights (tandem and solo), 200 tandem flights, 50 tandem hours, hold tandem rating for 12 months.
Result Summary
Question 1. Requirements for Grade-B Instructors:
- 32 (out of 41) Instructors voted in favour of Option B
- 64 (out of 91) participants voted in favour of Option B (70.3%)
Question 2. Requirements for Grade-C Instructors (TFI):
- 32 (out of 41) Instructors voted in favour of Option B
- 53 (out of 91) participants voted in favour of Option B (58.2%)
What happens now?
These survey results will be shared with the SACAA committee responsible for reviewing the Part 106 submission.
