A paraglider pilot collided with a tree in Hermanus.

Louis Stanford, Chairperson of the South African Hang-gliding and Paragliding Association (SAHPA), said that the accident happened mid-morning in mild conditions. The 34-year old pilot was flying under radio instruction. Thanks to some quick action by learners and teachers from Hermanus High School, the student fell from the tree onto high-jump mattresses, and thus suffered only mild injuries which were immediately addressed by paramedics.

Rescue services were co-ordinated by the Aeronautical Rescue Co-ordination Centre (ARCC). The exact reason for the accident is not known, but is being investigated.
